[caption id="attachment_523" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Panorma Of Eland Dam, Kamberg Nature Reserve[/caption] With the news of heavy snow falls on Tuesday and some light snow on Wednesday there was only one place that the Baha Boys were going to spend Woman's Day...and that was being manly in the Berg with a little fly fishing on the side. [caption id="attachment_521" align="alignright" width="300"] Warren Prior Fly Fishing In The Snow[/caption] We decided to head up slightly later than normally knowing that the water temperatures would be cold and that the fishing would be slow. That said we didn't want to leave it too late since there was bound to be lots of people heading up to see the snow. So at 6am Nick arrived at my door, we packed the Terios, and headed…
[caption id="attachment_515" align="alignleft" width="225"] Hayden Ellis With A Trout[/caption] Baha Fly Fishing decided to take a FOB (Friend of Baha) fishing for the day. It was a rather chilly late winter’s morning, nevertheless the car was packed with float tubes and rods and the journey began. We arrived at the water’s edge at around 7:30am and were instantly greeted by the polar bears (a mere 1 degree). I knew the conditions were going to be tough when the water we opted to fish was lower than I’d ever seen it and was only 6 degrees. But that said Hayden and I had a cup of coffee whilst rigging up and deciding on the correct method to attack the tricky conditions. I opted to use my Xplorer 5wt with an intermediate…
[caption id="attachment_505" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Turners Cottage[/caption] The weekend got off to an early and exciting start when I left the office at lunch time. The UHTFC (Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Club) had been kind enough to invite me up to their waters for the weekend to see just what the club had to offer. It was an opportunity I certainly couldn't turn down. After a quick lunch Neill picked me and we started the journey to Underberg. One of the committee members, Alan, had offered to host us for the weekend so we headed straight for his house. Upon arrival we quickly unpacked a few of our bags, threw a few beers into the fridge, and Alan then took us straight to our first water, Finelands. I recently had the pleasure of travelling to the 8th continent, Madagascar, for my honeymoon. It went without question that my fly rods were the first items to be packed and I'm grateful to say that my wife didn't bat an eyelid. We flew into Antananarivo on a Tuesday with the temperature being a chilly 19 degrees when we landed. This left us a little concerned since neither of us had packed any warm clothes. Things then got off to a rocky start when our airport transfer didn't arrive and we were left to fend for ourselves in a foreign, non English speaking, country. After battling off hundreds of "taxi" drivers and locals trying to grab our bags we finally climbed into a car. Much to our horror our "taxi"…
Nick and I explored the Lesotho Highlands for a day and we made a short video in the process. Check out our day's fly fishing! http://www.youtube.com/embed/F7j7SXwwDLM
[caption id="attachment_485" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Sani Pass Sunrise[/caption] With my wedding looming Nick stepped up to the plate as my best man and took me fly fishing in Lesotho as part one of my bulls. [caption id="attachment_487" align="alignright" width="300"] Terios Wheelie[/caption] At 3:30am I lazily climbed out of bed, pulled on my Columbia kit and did a last minute check of my gear. One of the pleasures of fishing small streams is just how lightly one can travel. My float tube was left in firmly its box and I picked up my 2 weight rod, backpack with lunch, and fly vest and headed out the door. By 4am we were on the road to Lesotho stopping off at our usual garage. The only difference was that when we pulled in they…
[caption id="attachment_479" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Lotheni Star Trails[/caption] Long weekends are not made to be wasted, and what better way to take advantage of one than by heading to Lotheni, one of my favourite (wild) brown trout waters. [caption id="attachment_476" align="alignright" width="300"] Warren Prior Tying Flies[/caption] With Sharon as my wingman for this trip I decided to cut her some slack and to head up a little later than I usually would with Nick. We left our house at around 6am and stopped off at the Lavender Trout for breakfast. Amazingly they had run out eggs which forced us back into the car in search of another breakfast venue. We opted for a bistro in The Junction at Nottingham Road. Both of our meals were fantastic and when we left Nottingham…
[caption id="attachment_473" align="alignright" width="300"] Autumn At Pump Dam (NFFC)[/caption] Sunday morning was the much anticipated NFFC club day and I climbed out of bed at 5am. Nick met me at Plantations at 5:30am and we were soon joined by Hans who had requested to fish with us at Pump Dam. Hans was kind enough to offer to drive so we climbed into his Fortuna and headed for the Drakensberg eager to catch some fish. Things however got off to a rocky start. The first mistake was me realising I'd left my R70 drinks at home and needed to stop off at yet another garage to purchase more. This however was soon forgotten when we can to a complete standstill on the N3. We're still not exactly sure what happened but,…
